Update on Vivian - 7/25.

Vivian had a great day today!

When Marian and I arrived at the hospital this morning, Vivian was happily hanging out in her bed watching Madeline in London on her iPod Touch. Vivian was very conversant with Marian and me and just generally seemed to be in a good mood. Her nurse, Norma, reported that Vivian had slept well during the night and had cooperated perfectly in taking all of her medication orally. Norma told us that when she asked Vivian if she wanted to watch Dora on the TV in her room, Vivian had indicated that she wanted to watch Madeline on her *phone* instead. Norma told Vivian that she wasn't sure she knew how to operate Vivian's phone. Vivian responded, "I can do it!" Norma handed Vivian her phone, and Vivian turned it on, navigated to the videos menu and chose the movie she wanted. Norma was so impressed! (I was too, given that Vivian's left hand could not have been of much help.)

Later in the afternoon Robert and his mom took Vivian on a walk around the hospital in her stroller. They got Vivian to take quite a few steps from her stroller to a sofa in the lobby. Robert's mom bought Vivian a banana smoothie that she consumed happily and easily.

We are all so excited about Vivian's homecoming tomorrow. I think I would have been happy at any point Vivian had been discharged, but her extra days in the hospital seem to have brought Vivian sufficiently far along in her recovery that I feel very comfortable about our ability to care for her at home. We will have some nursing help, but I hope not to need it for very long.

Praise God for the miraculous progress Vivian has made. Praise Him that Vivian seems so much like her old self again. Pray for Vivian's continued recovery. Pray that Vivian's strength, balance and appetite increase. Pray for wisdom and patience for Robert, Will, Dorothy and me as we tend to Vivian's needs at home.

We are very grateful for the comfort and support each of you has provided us on this journey.

"I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known Thy faithfulness to all generations." Psalm 89:1

My heart leapt when I saw Vivian's smiling face in the first photo! I've been out of town, so had not checked in lately, but continued the prayers. What an amazing turn she's taken! I'm so happy for Vivian, you and your entire family. Praise God!
