Mother of the Year. Not.

Poor Vivian fell down our stairs on Monday morning.

I was in my room getting dressed when I heard her cry out. I found her on the landing at the bottom of the staircase holding her Dora pillow and sleeping bag (we were waiting for her bus to pick her up for summer school, and I guess she had decided she wanted to nap on the way to school). She was wimpering, but not crying, and she said, "I need some ice for my nose." I noticed a bump on her forehead, but otherwise she seemed fine. The bus was now waiting, and I was in a rush to get our sick cat Percy to the vet by 8, so out the door I sent Vivian, and I proceeded on with my day.

You can only imagine how I felt when her teacher called me a few hours later and wondered, "Did Vivian have a rough weekend? It looks like she broke her nose."

Oops.

I took her to our pediatrician who said her nose definitely looked broken and that the amount of swelling warranted a trip to the ENT.

We saw her ENT yesterday (who put tubes in her ears when she was one and removed her adenoids when she was ten), and he recommended we bring her to the OR tomorrow (Thursday) so he could move the bone back in place while she was under sedation. He also said Vivian's original request for ice was a good idea. {Sigh}

Thankfully the nose doesn't seem to bother her at all, likely because she has an extremely high pain tolerance. It just looks terrible, especially now that her eye is turning black.

I'm not even sure she realizes anything is wrong with her nose. My dear neighbor Karey brought over some Twizzlers (Vivian's favorite) as a treat for her. Vivian showed them to her daddyman, and he asked her, "Did Mark's mom bring those for your nose?"

"No. For my mouth," was her reply.

Sweet girl. I can't believe she'll be 14 on Sunday.

Happy Birthday to Sweet Vivian! I remember the day you were born. Sure doesn't seem like 14 years ago! Oh my, where does the time and years go? Give her a big hug from all of the Cottens and we hope to see you all VERY soon! Love from Anne-Murray

*Wish I was just flying in from Dallas. I have had a poor pitiful "ME" weekend.
