Hockey girls?

HockeyBoy

Hockey season gets underway at our house tomorrow night.

Hockey Boy is a member of two teams: his high school team and a travel team. He has played hockey for many years, but this year he is on the Varsity team and there's a new twist: Hockey Girls. Not to be confused with girls who play hockey, as we've had several girls on our teams over the years, a *Hockey Girl* volunteers to be a player's individual pep squad. She brings cookies before games, decorates his locker or car and comes to cheer him on at the games wearing a sweatshirt that says, "Ice, ice, baby" on the front and has Hockey Boy's last name and number on the back. It all seems a bit dated and sexist to me, but Hockey Boy is THRILLED.

He came into my little office last night with a sheepish look on his face.

"Guess how many girls signed up to be my Hockey Girl?" he asked while looking at the ground.

"How many?" I replied nonchalantly, hoping against hope that the answer was greater than zero.

"Five," said Hockey Boy, with a big ol' shy grin spreading across his face.

Five?! Think all of this *support* will result in a lot of goals scored? Stay tuned...

Just catching up! Your trip looks magnificent! You two are cute together. I loved reading about Hockey Boy's enthusiasm. So cute. And Happy Birthday to your darling daughter!

Lucky Hockey Boy! (PS, are there "Hockey Boys" for the girls that play hockey? I suspect not ...)

That is cute. And good fun too. A friend and I were Basketball Girls in high school. I still have the charm bracelet that the basketball player gave each of us to say thanks at the end of the season. I think his Mom was behind that, but it was a nice gesture. We had a lot of fun.
I hope Hockey Boy gets some cool treats.
